Shredding - Shredding an item is literally to rip or tear it into strips. Shredders are machines that shred objects such as documents and garden waste.
Rip cut - In woodworking, a rip cut is a cut made parallel to the grain of the wood. Rip cuts are commonly made with a table saw, but other types of saws can also be used, including hand rip saws, radial arm saws and band saws.
Rip saw - In woodworking, a cut made parallel to the direction of the grain of the workpiece is known as a rip cut. If one was to cut a tree trunk in half from top to bottom, this would be a rip cut — but the term also applies to cutting free lumber.
Rip current - A rip current is a strong flow of water returning seaward from the shore. It is often mistakenly called a "rip tide" or "riptide", though the occurrence is not related to the tides.
